New Affordable Apartments Open Applications At West Newton Armory

NEWTON — A new affordable-housing opportunity opened at the redeveloped West Newton Armory even as looming MBTA maintenance work threatens to thin train service through Auburndale in the days ahead, according to Newton Patch. The Newton Free Library, meanwhile, keeps a full slate of summer programming running this week, from its Trustees meeting to family events.

COMING UP

The Newton Free Library's Board of Trustees meets Wednesday, July 22, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Homer Street library. The same day brings a Winnie-the-Pooh Escape Room for kids (9 a.m. to 5 p.m., continuing July 23), an outdoor storytime at 10:30 a.m. and a Summer Craft Club session for ages 3 to 5 at 6:30 p.m. On Thursday, July 23, the library offers two "Make Way for Storytime" sessions, the "Little Lab Coats" program for kids at 4 p.m., and an adult Board Game Club from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The library's 2026 Summer Reading Program for kids, tweens, teens, adults and English-language learners continues through Sept. 4, alongside weekly English Language Learning classes and conversation groups.
