Littleton Select Board designates Shattuck Street a 20 mph safety zone, warns of $1.24 million FY28 gap. The board voted unanimously Monday for the safety-zone change after residents Todd Sodders, Reena Schindler, Megan Ford and Joanne Deary described speeding traffic near a Town Hall daycare, the Center on Shattuck senior center and the library; Ford said "that could be a real tragedy" if a pedestrian stepped into traffic. In a joint session with the Finance Committee, Town Administrator James Duggan presented a fiscal 2028 deficit of $1,240,861, prompting Chair Gary Wilson to say, "I'm not willing just to come out and say, let's freeze," as the board opted instead to require its approval before any town vacancy is backfilled.
The board also unanimously approved step increases moving Mark Scola to deputy chief of police (Grade 17, Step 7) and Patrick O'Donoghue and Kimberly Tocci to police lieutenant (Grade 15, Step 6), and reviewed a 16-article October 27 Special Town Meeting warrant, including a Community Preservation appropriation for Fay Park that grew from $150,000 to $458,000 after the park's unsafe gazebo was removed.
