Littleton Select Board approves new Chief Douglas Landry's contract and a police department reorganization that adds a second lieutenant without growing the 24-officer force. The board, joined by the Finance Committee for the out-of-cycle Monday session, voted 3-0 to approve Landry's contract and unanimously backed a plan promoting an internal sergeant to deputy chief and an internal detective to lieutenant, funded partly by delaying a detective-sergeant hire. Landry said the restructuring addresses thin overnight supervision: "So what we're seeing here in Littleton is we have a very young police force." Staff projected a roughly $43,000 budget buffer, but the plan also accelerates the town's Quinn Bill education-incentive costs by about $55,000, a year earlier than the police union contract requires.

Vice Chair Charles DeCoste summed up his support: "I don't like it, but I understand it."
