Library and Recreation Fill Westford's Summer Event Calendar
The J.V. Fletcher Library kicks off a busy stretch of family and community programming this week, while Westford Recreation continues a full slate of summer youth activities across town.
TOWN HALL
The Town of Westford is preparing residents for the "Junk in the Trunk" event scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, giving households another outlet for unwanted items. Officials have also flagged upcoming deadlines for bow hunting season applications, which will be accepted through Aug. 7, with permits issued by Aug. 14 ahead of the season's Sept. 1 start.
The town's July Town Manager's Newsletter is now available for residents seeking a fuller rundown of municipal activity. Separately, the Stony Brook Track & Athletic Court Improvement Project has been completed, giving residents and student-athletes a finished facility ahead of the fall season.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The J.V. Fletcher Library, operating from its temporary location at 515 Groton Road during the ongoing building project, has a full lineup this week. Family Game Night is set for Wednesday, July 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at First Parish Church United, 48 Main St., offering tabletop games for all ages.
Later in the week, the library's Westford Recreation Department partner programs continue at Roudenbush Community Center, including a Digital Art for Kids workshop on drawing creatures and critters, and a Digital Animation Workshop, both Thursday, July 30. The library's 2026 Summer Reading Program, themed "Plant a Seed, Read," remains underway for both adults and youth throughout the summer.
Looking further ahead, the library has announced a virtual author event: bestselling science-fiction author Elizabeth Bear will offer book recommendations on Wednesday, Aug. 12. The library building project, funded in part by a $7.85 million state construction grant, continues to move through construction with the historic Common-facing facade to remain unchanged upon completion.
Westford Recreation is also running a full menu of summer offerings, including Impact Speed and Agility, Skyhawks Field Hockey, Brazilian Soccer, and Marcus Lewis Tennis youth clinics for ages 5 and up at Stony Brook Courts.
