Carlisle Transportation Advisory Committee Begins Prioritizing 119 Road Safety Projects

CARLISLE — March 24, 2026 — Carlisle's Transportation Advisory Committee began a multi-meeting effort to prioritize 119 road safety projects for the 2026 paving season, with no formal votes taken at the March 24 meeting. Committee member Nick Dines presented a self-compiled spreadsheet of public safety comments drawn from more than two years of committee minutes and resident website submissions, identifying 13 locations where multiple residents had flagged the same concern — including nine separate complaints about speeding and crosswalk safety on Old Marlboro Road near Cottage Street. Planning staff liaison Alyssa confirmed Stantec agreed to incorporate that additional input, along with pedestrian and bicycle crash data currently missing from its ranking tool, in a revised version. Jeff Collins of Concord Mobility presented Google Earth maps overlaying the town's proposed 2026-2027 paving plan with a proposed community bike network, asking public works to add four- to five-foot shoulders on repaving segments; committee member Rebecca cautioned that "paint is not infrastructure" and warned that painted lanes can create a false sense of security for vulnerable users.
