Carlisle Conservation Committee Plans Knotweed Mapping, Invasive Consulting for Spring

CARLISLE — March 17, 2026 — Carlisle Conservation Committee plans knotweed mapping, invasive consulting, and Earth Day willow giveaway. Meeting March 17, the committee approved corrected minutes from January and laid out a spring and summer conservation agenda that includes a volunteer consulting service to advise homeowners on invasive plant identification and native replacements, a road-survey mapping effort for Japanese knotweed beginning in June modeled on a similar Weston project, and the distribution of pussy willow cuttings at an April 26 Earth Day walk from First Parish to Walden Pond organized by a member identified only as Brad. The committee operates without a dedicated budget. Member Isabel noted a large knotweed patch already exists along the Reformatory Trail near Lowell Road, where town staff have been working on eradication. "If you catch it early or start to really combat it, it's only going to get significantly worse," she said. The committee's next meeting is April 14.
