Bedford Invites Residents to Weigh In on Future of Fire Station Site

Bedford is asking residents to help shape the future of the existing fire station at 55 The Great Road, while the Department of Public Works is signaling a billing change that will affect every water customer in town starting next spring.

The town, working with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, has scheduled a virtual public forum to gather community input on the future use of 55 The Great Road — the site of the existing fire station. Residents will be able to join town staff and MAPC representatives online to discuss what the property could become. The Fire Station Future Use Project has been a standing item on the town's agenda, and the forum represents a direct opportunity for public participation in shaping the outcome.

The Department of Public Works announced it will transition from semi-annual water billing to quarterly water billing beginning in April 2027. The change means customers will receive bills four times a year rather than twice, giving households more frequent windows to track their water usage and flag unusual consumption.

Meanwhile, nominations are now open for the 2026 Bedford Citizen of the Year. The town is calling on residents to put forward candidates deserving of the annual honor.
