Bedford Conservation Commission Backs Medical Imaging Trailer Variance at Wetland-Adjacent Site

BEDFORD — June 23, 2026 — Bedford Conservation Commission unanimously recommended approval of a wetland-setback variance for a portable PET/CT imaging trailer at 318 South River Road. The commission backed the application from Granite North Realty Partners, LLC, with conditions requiring the Planning Board to review snow storage, consider mandating a Green Snow Pro certified contractor, encourage native plantings and a pollinator garden in areas of restored impervious surface, and confirm a double row of silt sock erosion control at the wetland perimeter; project representative Jason Hill said the trailer's placement within an existing driveway footprint would result in a net reduction in impervious surface through the removal of five parking spaces. Separately, the commission authorized up to $2,500 for SNH Surveying to update the Joppa Hill Conservation Area boundary survey, completing a years-long state-reviewed conservation easement amendment that converted 25 acres of municipal use zone to full conservation and defined an 8.3-acre exclusionary zone around the Joppa Hill Educational Farm. The commission also approved up to $500 for an Appalachian Mountain Club trail coordinator to assess Bedford conservation properties for a proposed Bedford High School trail-building intercession program, and re-elected Grant Killian as chair and Joanne Smith as vice chair.
