Whip Katherine Clark Makes Unannounced Visit To Burlington ICE Facility

BURLINGTON — U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark, D-Mass., the House Democratic whip, made an unannounced visit to Burlington's ICE detention facility Friday and issued a statement afterward criticizing how the Trump administration is running the site, according to a press release from her office. The visit marks a new turn in months of congressional attention on the federal facility, which sits in Burlington.

Clark, who represents Massachusetts' 5th Congressional District, toured the facility without advance notice, her office said in the release. In her statement, Clark said the facility is being run at the direction of the Trump administration and pressed for more transparency into conditions inside, adding her voice to a string of Massachusetts lawmakers who have raised concerns this year about the Burlington-based site.

COMING UP

Three town boards meet at Town Hall on Tuesday, July 28: the Government Review Committee, the Board of Health, and the General Bylaw Review Committee, according to the town's online calendar.
