Weston School Committee unveils final strategic plan, discloses bus-leasing legal snag. The committee voted 5-0 by roll call to accept its consent agenda, including six new learning assistants that Director Martha Bakken called "the biggest I've ever seen." Superintendent Karen Zaleski presented the completed 2026-2031 strategic plan, built with the TLA Group, including a goal of a 60 percent student growth percentile by 2031 that member Stephen Dietz said he didn't "understand the definition" of. Administrators disclosed losing $227,900 in PRISM grant funding plus roughly $30,000 in a separate state grant, covered by reallocating budget lines.
The district also learned town counsel requires a two-thirds Town Meeting vote to lease school buses, jeopardizing a planned cost-saving shift and prompting member Kenneth Newberg to say he took "some umber" to having an earlier question called "loaded." The committee then voted 5-0 to enter executive session on WAPA collective bargaining strategy.
