Groton-Dunstable School Committee Opens Year, Approves $14.7 Million in Warrants

Groton-Dunstable schools open the year with a $146,000 literacy grant and a model-school nod for Florence Roche. Superintendent Dr. Bruno reported the district's new Florence Roche Elementary School drew a summer visit from the Massachusetts School Building Authority's model school program, while curriculum lead Marian said a $146,000 PRISM 2 grant will fund a K-2 literacy curriculum review and the completion of the "95 Core" phonics rollout districtwide.
Bruno said a proposed $112-per-pupil state supplemental budget could be voted on by roughly October 1, calling it "one-time funding" that would not raise the district's base state aid. The budget must be certified by March 15, 2027. The committee approved, by roll call, one payroll warrant of $8,049,866.20 and 21 vendor warrants totaling $6,619,885.66, and approved June 10 and Aug. 17 meeting minutes with one member abstaining.
Marian said, "it's fantastic to be recognized that we are going to get this money."
