Westford Select Board Approves Agricultural Land Release for Boston Road Project

WESTFORD — March 12, 2026 — Westford Select Board clears final land hurdle for the Boston Road Rehabilitation Project. The board voted unanimously Thursday to execute a partial agricultural preservation restriction release on parcels across from the fire department, allowing easements for utilities, guardrails, slopes, and a new sidewalk as required by MassDOT. Town Engineer Paul Sterrett told the board the project is on schedule, with water main installation set to begin in the spring and significant detours expected along the corridor for most of the summer; the project targets substantial completion by November 15. Sterrett noted unexpected ledge had slowed crews during the past season but said time was recovered by continuing underdrain work through the fall. Ellen Hardy, president of the Drew Farmhouse board, confirmed during public comment that up to four public parking spaces for Peace Trail access have already been approved through the Planning Board and Board of Appeals as part of an affordable-housing conversion of the historic farmhouse.
