WAYLAND — January 7, 2026 — Wayland Historical Commission hears Sherman's Bridge redesign keeps timber deck and five-foot walkway. DPW Director Tom Holder told the Jan. 7 remote meeting the current design eliminates a proposed asphalt layer over the wood driving deck, lowers the rail barrier and uses all-wood abutments, with MassDOT covering deck repair materials and contractor labor — "a tremendous financial benefit, considering the town's current financial challenges." A Project Notification Form has been refiled with the Massachusetts Historical Commission. Resident Doug Stotz said the Sudasco River Stewardship Council has discussed contributing $50,000 to $100,000 toward a possible south-side walkway. The commission voted 4-0 to approve corrected Dec. 3 minutes and 5-0 to adjourn. Temporary Chair Sherry Anne Bryant will hold the gavel through March; Bradford Carver takes it April through June. The free "Deborah Sampson" performance Sunday at Vokes Theatre is capped at 140 seats.
