Wayland Finance Committee Appointing Board fills four seats in unanimous vote

WAYLAND — June 25, 2026 — Wayland Finance Committee Appointing Board fills four seats with unanimous vote ahead of override year. The three-member board — Chair Cherry C. Karlson, Select Board member Carol B. Martin, and Town Moderator Miranda S Jones — voted 3-0 on June 25 to reappoint Carl Barnes and Iris Hoxha and to appoint returning member Brian O'Herlihy and newcomer Satish Raj, with Barnes and O'Herlihy each receiving one-year terms ending June 30, 2027, and Hoxha and Raj each receiving three-year terms ending June 30, 2029. The appointments came after candidates described a turbulent prior budget year in which the capital budget figure presented to the Finance Committee for review had grown from a Capital Improvement Plan Committee recommendation of roughly $8.5 million to over $13 million by the time it arrived, a delta of more than 50 percent. "Last year was a difficult year for me and for the finance committee," Barnes said, noting he had nearly declined to seek reappointment before reconsidering over quorum concerns. One three-year seat — vacated by a member identified only as April — remains unfilled, with at least one additional candidate to be interviewed at a meeting tentatively set for July 9 or July 14.
