Library Board of Trustees · Meeting of October 6, 2026
Watertown's library board heard that the library will relaunch with a self-service "open hold" checkout system when it reopens October 14. Library Director Kim Long said patrons will retrieve reserved items from an open shelf instead of a staff desk, with a "pickup alias" option for added privacy, and that mobile checkout for all materials, not just holds, is newly available to Watertown-coded patrons after a three-year gap. The library closes October 13 for a staff training day and the start of a service-desk renovation by vendor TrueBuild.
Trustees also approved the September financial report, which showed $322,206.29 in encumbrances and $366,426 remaining in the budget, and accepted donations including nine historic postcards from David J. Russo and Boston Marathon bombing research materials from former WBUR journalist Bruce Gellerman. The bookmobile drew 667 visitors at a recent community fair, while staff said they are still working to secure space for a bookmobile stop at Lowell Elementary School.
