Wakefield Select Board Revotes DPW and Library Budgets to Fix Trust Fund Errors
WAKEFIELD — May 4, 2026 — Wakefield Select Board holds nine-minute special session to fix two budget errors before Town Meeting. The board voted 5-0 twice Monday morning to correct DPW and library budget appropriations after trust fund offsets totaling roughly $161,000 were omitted from earlier votes. The corrected DPW budget of $8,355,601 shifts $107,000 from the tax levy to cemetery and park trust funds; the corrected library budget of $2,147,295 shifts $54,078 to the library trust fund. Town Accountant Liz Renaud explained the delay was procedural — quarterly fund-balance reports had to be received before the offsets could be confirmed. The fixes were required before the FY2026 appropriation book was distributed at the evening's Annual Town Meeting at the Galvin Middle School.
