Wakefield Begins Safety Upgrades at Oak, Green and Greenwood Intersection

WAKEFIELD — Town crews began work Monday to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection of Oak Street, Green Street and Greenwood Avenue, one of the more complicated junctions in town, according to the town's News Flash.

TOWN HALL Work started July 13 on the Oak Street, Green Street and Greenwood Avenue intersection improvement project, which the town says is intended to improve safety and traffic flow at the three-way junction. The town did not specify an expected completion date.

A day earlier, on Sunday, the town held a Fix-It Clinic, a community event where residents could bring in broken household items — including small electronics, furniture, clothing and textiles, eyeglasses and jewelry — for free repair and advice from volunteers.

COMMUNITY & ARTS The Lucius Beebe Memorial Library has two dated programs on the calendar this week. On July 18 at 10 a.m., librarians will lead a Beebe Walk & Talk through Breakheart Reservation, meeting at the reservation's Wakefield entrance at 100 Hemlock Road for a guided nature walk tied to the library's Nature Booklist.

On July 20 at 7 p.m., the library will host a virtual talk, "Celebrating America's 250th: The Black Experience of the Revolution," featuring independent scholar and author Gracia Collins Rich discussing the role of Black Americans during the Revolutionary War. Registration is required.

COMING UP The Town Council meets Monday, July 20, in a hybrid session via Zoom. The following day, July 21, brings meetings of the Housing Trust, the Human Rights Commission and the School Committee's regular open session.

The Nahant Street Yard Waste Site is open Saturday, July 18. At the Senior Center, a field trip to York Beach and a Yoga vs. Osteoporosis class with Dr. Katie Wadland are both scheduled for Friday, July 17.
