Tewksbury School Committee Opens Internal Superintendent Search With $200K Salary Range

TEWKSBURY — January 28, 2026 — Tewksbury School Committee votes to post superintendent position internally, targets February 6 opening. The committee unanimously authorized Chair Bridget Garabedian to work with legal counsel to post the position internally by approximately February 6, with a proposed salary range of $195,000 to $205,000, as it begins the search to replace retiring Superintendent Brenda Theriault-Regan. If no suitable internal candidate emerges after a roughly two-week posting window, the committee said it will cast a wider external net. The action came after a budget workshop in which Business Manager David Libby presented a proposed FY27 school budget of $82,051,493 — a 3.44 percent overall increase — driven largely by a $1.844 million salary increase under current contracts and a projected near-$1 million jump in employee health insurance costs. The committee also flagged the ongoing loss of competitive grant funding tied to the town's MBTA Communities Act non-compliance, with member Chris Moncada calling it "a big bummer" and Garabedian pledging to draft a joint letter to state legislators by the February 9 meeting.
