Sudbury School Committee approves $300 middle school athletic fee, defers club-fee decision
SPS School Committee · Meeting of June 1, 2026
Sudbury sets $300 middle school athletic fee, punts on club fees. The School Committee unanimously approved a $300-per-sport middle school athletic fee for FY27 with a $1,200 family cap, an increase Business and Finance Director Brad attributed to transportation costs of roughly $500 per away game. Members deferred a companion vote on club fees after a debate over whether a 15-student minimum would eliminate a diversity club that enrolled seven students last year, along with a computer club and intramural volleyball.
Member Karen Jones pushed to protect small clubs; Chair Jessica McCready said, "I would rather lower the minimum than have exceptions." The committee also approved a July 27 in-person workshop with an outside facilitator and appointed Jones and Betsy Suess to the town's FY28 budget working group. Jones reported families received 94 committee-related communications last fiscal year.
