Sudbury Housing Authority authorizes design-build RFP for Pine Lakes redevelopment

Sudbury Housing Authority green-lights design-build RFP as Pine Lakes redevelopment costs balloon. The board directed Cambridge Housing Authority consultants to begin drafting a design-build procurement for the stalled 705 redevelopment at 2 Beachwood Ave. and 8 Oakwood Ave., after preliminary cost estimates came in "approaching undoable." Board member Frank, an architect on the project, said he saw "no downside to proceeding with that ASAP," but insisted preliminary septic designs run in parallel, citing the abandoned Nobscot project. A special meeting was set for Feb. 24.

Residents Alicia and Ann Garcia used public comment to object to exterior second-story stairways in the current duplex design. Separately, a septic replacement design fee for units built in 1990 was negotiated from $93,000 to $78,000 against a state estimate of $42,935, and the CPC recommended Town Meeting approve $600,000 for the housing trust.
