Somerville Traffic Commission Approves Loading Zones on Revolution Drive, Prospect Street

Other Committee · Meeting of July 7, 2026

Somerville Traffic Commission unanimously overhauled curb regulations at Assembly Row, Union Square, and Prospect Street at its July 7 remote meeting. The five-member body, chaired by DPW Commissioner Eric Weissman, approved all items 5-0. The largest change converts nine metered and four 15-minute spaces on Revolution Drive at Assembly Row into 10 loading zones and a second accessible parking space, responding to what parking project manager Jackie Stagnari described as chronic double-parking in bike lanes and travel lanes by food-pickup drivers — including customers of the recently opened Jersey Mike's, whose application was submitted by Assembly Row developer Federal Realty.

On Prospect Street, the commission approved eliminating seven residential permit spaces to make room for a bus queue jump lane tied to the city's Union Square Transit Signal Priority Improvements Project, with implementation expected later this summer or fall. The commission also converted two Stone Avenue metered spaces into a loading zone for three Union Square businesses — Monero One Stop Mart, El Potro Mexican Grill, and Union Square Pizza — and flipped a Wilson Square Slip Lane stretch from two-hour permit-exempt parking to metered parking as part of the ongoing Elm Beacon Connector Project.
