Somerville Panel Votes to Merge Bike and Transit Committees Into Single Mobility Body

Somerville's board-review panel voted to merge its two mobility committees and dissolve the Ethics Commission at its July 8 meeting. The committee also held a lengthy discussion of five equity-focused commissions — the Human Rights Commission, Commission for Women, Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Fair Housing Commission, and Council on Aging — but took no formal action, with staff liaison Brendan Salisbury cautioning that consolidating some of those bodies could require a home rule petition to preserve their current legal authorities.
