ABLE staff member Shannon reported an unusually high caseload at the March 26 remote meeting, including cases alleging racial discrimination in a lease non-renewal, Section 8 and familial status discrimination in a rental application, a disability-related eviction tied to outdoor medical cannabis use, and a subletting denial involving familial status and an emotional support animal — the last involving a property management company based in Somerville that has drawn prior complaints. The commission also confirmed two Fair Housing Month events: a landlord-focused bingo session at the Council on Aging on April 10 and a "Color of Law" book discussion at the Somerville Public Library on April 16.

On vacancies, Shannon said top candidates for one of two open commission seats were to be forwarded to the mayor's office for approval by March 27, with applications for a low-to-moderate income tenant seat closing March 31. Shannon noted access problems at MCAD, where one complainant found the online intake interview booked out far enough to threaten the 300-day filing deadline: "It does seem like that might have been a temporary improvement."
