Sherborn Select Board confronts a $660,000 FY27 budget gap that could force a Proposition 2 1/2 override. Town Administrator Jeremy Marsette presented a preliminary budget rollup Thursday showing total submitted spending would require a 7.4 to 7.5 percent property tax levy increase, roughly double the 3.5 percent increase approved for FY26, driven by a 15 percent health insurance jump, an 8.4 percent retirement assessment increase, and a 62 percent surge in out-of-district special education costs from $694,000 to $1.1 million. Vice Chair Dan Sichel warned that avoiding an override this year only makes next year's gap worse: "It is an absolute inevitability that next year there's going to be an override." The board also unanimously approved raising EV charger rates by five cents per kilowatt hour and delegating future pricing to the town administrator, and voted 3-1 to place a revised Land Acquisition Committee charge on the annual town meeting warrant.
