Sherborn Advisory Committee Clears Pine Hill Budget With 1.43 Percent Increase

Sherborn's advisory committee heard a Pine Hill School budget held to a 1.43 percent in-district increase for fiscal year 2027, built substantially on $125,000 in staff retirements and $80,000 in pre-K revolving tuition offsets. District administrators told the committee that a restructuring of the elementary school day will eliminate 0.6 of a Spanish teaching position — saving $66,000 — and add a shared 0.4 health educator at a cost of $26,400, for a net personnel reduction of roughly $39,600. A reconfiguration of the pre-K coordinator role into the special education coordinator yielded an additional $38,000 savings between budget versions.

School Committee Chair Becca Hammond attended as the Sherborn School Committee's representative. Administrators acknowledged the district is currently over budget on out-of-district special education placements and said circuit breaker funds may be needed to cover the gap in fiscal year 2027. Families losing in-school Spanish were told after-school world language options through the regional community education program, which runs on parent tuition in a self-sustaining revolving fund, are being developed and would include Mandarin, French, and Italian alongside Spanish.
