Sewer Commission votes to notify grinder pump users

Sewer Commission · Meeting of July 8, 2026

GROTON — The Groton Sewer Commission voted to send a mailed notice warning grinder pump customers that their systems fail during power outages. Business Manager Lauren Curry said roughly 20 to 30 properties, plus the Prescott School, rely on grinder pumps, and the board agreed to fold the notice into regular billing to save postage. New member Bruce Heeson was sworn in and elected clerk by a 3-0 roll call alongside Jim Gmeiner and Vice Chair Eric Berg.

Curry also flagged that the leaseholder of the Station House Restaurant, Will Gilson, plans to cook food on-site for off-site Herb Lyceum events, a change that "likely increasing perhaps their sewer capacity under Title 5" could trigger a higher connection fee. The board approved its June 10 minutes, 2-0 with one abstention.
