Sewer Commission adopts three-year residential, commercial rate hikes

Tyngsborough Sewer Commission locks in three-year rate hikes after a quiet public hearing. Commissioners unanimously adopted 15 percent annual residential increases and 22 percent annual commercial increases through fiscal 2029, pushing the average residential bill from $547.18 to $873.25 a year, "a $9.50 per month increase" by the final year, Sewer Administrator Kathy Cayer said. No residents spoke at the hearing.

The board also reallocated 440 gallons a day in freed Housing Authority capacity to a coffee shop planned at 161 Westford Road, clearing it for an occupancy permit, and waived $65.34 combined in late fees for two residents whose payments were misapplied. Chair Brian Martin told a local brewery exceeding its sewer allotment it would still need to buy roughly $33,000 in additional capacity despite water lost to evaporation and product during brewing.
