Planning Board OKs Firehouse Feedback Letter
Planning Board · Meeting of October 5, 2026
Boxborough Planning Board finalizes feedback letter on new firehouse before public hearing. Chair Richard Guzzardi, Clerk Chris Dowdy, and members Gary Kushner and Rebecca Verner voted 4-0 to approve the letter, as amended, for the 20,000-square-foot station at 984-996 Massachusetts Avenue and 38 Sarah's Way, with member Mark White recused as an abutter. The board pressed the applicant on a proposed 50-foot training tower, parking-stall sizing, and traffic data, after Maria Neyland of the fire station building committee insisted, "I cannot make that any clearer, that was my word," that the facility is not becoming a regional training center.
Resident Becky Neville told the board, "It makes absolutely no sense to me at all," objecting to any sidewalk-fund contribution tied to the bond-financed project. A traffic memo from Fuss and O'Neill estimated 10 vehicle trips during the weekday evening peak hour. The applicant is expected to file a full site plan application October 19, with a public hearing possible November 18.
