Pepperell Recreation Commission drops fitness court bid, backs volleyball courts

Recreation Commission · Meeting of February 2, 2026

Pepperell Recreation Commission drops a fitness court funding bid, backs Eagle Scout volleyball courts at Town Field. Chair David Ganong said the commission withdrew its Community Preservation Committee application for an NFC fitness court after concluding "it's not going to pass," while confirming its earlier support letter now applies to Eagle Scout Avery Hansen's volleyball courts, relocated to Town Field near the skate park. Member Alan Leo defended a prior symbolic vote backing the Affordable Housing Trust's CPC request, saying "it was symbolic, so that's the way it is." The commission reviewed a capital list built by staffer Leanne citing $20,000 to $30,000 spent rehabbing the Bartelson baseball field and tennis-court estimates up to $500,000, and flagged a possible buried oil tank at the Community Center that Ganong wants scoped before Town Meeting.

The commission adjourned at 6:15 p.m. after voting unanimously.
