MAYNARD — April 7, 2026 — Maynard Select Board cancels dormant liquor license and approves $70,000 school transportation transfer in wide-ranging Tuesday session. The board voted 5-0 to revoke the off-premises all-alcohol license held by Maynard Liquors at 86 Powder Mill Road, ending a process that began with a dormancy finding in June 2025 and included two extensions totaling nine months; attorney Arthur Pearlman, representing owner Pavan Patel, said he would appeal to the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission within ten days. Town Administrator Gregory Johnson, who recommended cancellation, told the board that other parties have expressed interest in the license and that prior extensions "hadn't yielded promised outcomes." The board also approved a $70,000 draw from the Special Education Stabilization Reserve Fund to cover a disputed FY25 transportation bill from vendor Van Pool — contracted through the Assabet Valley Collaborative — with an April 10 DESE deadline driving the urgency. Police Chief Christopher Troiano, after waiting more than three hours, briefed the board on a five-year Axon body-worn camera program totaling $121,200.30, with a $70,000 state grant reducing the town's net cost to $51,188.80; the board approved the related warrant article and forwarded 15 draft articles to the Finance Committee for the May 18 Annual Town Meeting.
