As a record-breaking heat event bears down on Massachusetts with temperatures expected to feel above 110 degrees Fahrenheit, Marlborough has opened cooling locations across the city — and simultaneously transitions to a new emergency ambulance provider, a pairing of public-safety moves that defines the final day of June.

Two significant city-hall developments landed in the same 24-hour window. Mayor J. Christian Dumais announced that Coastal Medical Transportation Systems (Coastal) is now Marlborough's new provider of emergency ambulance services, effective this week, according to a press release posted on the city's website. The city's homepage also carries a closure notice: City Hall and all non-emergency departments will be shut all day Friday, July 3, in observation of the Independence Day holiday.
Residents should also note that a Community Development Authority Special Meeting and a Conservation Commission meeting are both scheduled for Thursday, July 2.
