Main Library Garage To Close Four Days For Broadway Work
Cambridge Public Library patrons at the Main branch will lose access to the library's garage for four days starting Friday, as construction on Broadway continues, while City Hall pointed nonprofits toward a new round of grant funding and the license commission's new alcohol rules stayed in effect around town.

City officials issued an advance notice this week about an upcoming competitive grant round through the Community Benefits Advisory Committee, aimed at supporting community-based nonprofits addressing critical resident needs, according to a City of Cambridge announcement. No application timeline or funding amount has been released yet, but the city said more details will follow.
Roadway paving work continues around town this week as part of ongoing improvements; the city's contractor, Newport Construction, is performing milling and paving operations that began the week of July 20, weather permitting, per the city's News Flash.
Changes to the city's mattress and box spring recycling program took effect July 20: residents scheduling a collection through UTEC will now pay a portion of the cost, with the city continuing to subsidize the remainder, the city said.

The Main Library garage on Broadway is expected to close Friday, July 31, through Monday, August 3, reopening Tuesday, August 4, due to ongoing construction, according to the library. The library itself remains open for normal hours during the closure.
Library Director Maria McCauley's weekly update highlighted several summer programs, including a "Library Crawl" and other adult and children's offerings continuing into early August. Saturday's calendar at the Main branch includes an Adobe Illustrator workshop requiring prior Hive safety training, along with ESOL classes, toddler story time, and drop-in tech help at the Central Square branch.
