COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Lincoln Public Library Board of Trustees announced it is seeking applicants for a new trustee position, particularly someone with a specific area of interest in serving the library. The library is also honoring outgoing trustee Peter Sugar as he steps down from the board, and has opened submissions for the Virginia Rundell Award.
The library's Seed Library has launched its second annual run, and the collection has added four new wifi hotspots for patrons, along with passes for Massachusetts State Parks available for checkout. Access to Library Lane and library parking remains affected by ongoing construction, and visitors are advised to allow extra travel time; details are posted at lincolnbigdig.com.
On the programming front, the Lincoln Library Film Society is screening "Lore" (2012) as its second-Thursday-of-the-month feature, and the library is also hosting a Movie Matinee showing of "Toy Story" (1995, rated G, 81 minutes) — both events scheduled for today, July 9.
In a lighter historical note, the library's website highlights that the band They Might Be Giants got its start at Lincoln-Sudbury High School in 1982, with band member John Flansburg recalling in an interview that "the library really performed a very practical cultural function for us."
COMING UP
