Lexington Wins $10,000 Grant for Event-Safety Barricades
LEXINGTON — Lexington has been awarded a $10,000 risk-management grant from the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association, the town's property and casualty insurer, to buy metal barricades for use at town events and celebrations, the town announced Thursday.

The MIIA grant, funded through the insurer's risk-management program, is intended to strengthen public safety at town-sponsored gatherings by giving the town its own supply of crowd-control barriers rather than renting them event by event, according to the town's press release.
Separately, the town issued a heat advisory this week urging residents to take precautions during a stretch of high temperatures, including checking on elderly neighbors and other vulnerable residents and using town-provided cooling resources. The town also rolled out LexSortSmart, a new online tool meant to be a one-stop guide to trash, recycling and disposal rules in Lexington.
The Select Board is looking to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Trustees of Public Trusts and is asking qualified residents to apply. Elsewhere at Town Hall, the Lexington Affordable Housing Trust opened its Pilot Rental Assistance Program, known as Lex PRAP, for low- and moderate-income renters, the town has partnered with Davey Resource Group to develop an Urban Forest Master Plan for the town's tree canopy, and the Human Rights Commission has compiled a webpage of local immigration resources for residents.
