Lexington Secures $10,000 MIIA Grant for Event Safety Barriers

DATELINE — LEXINGTON

The Town of Lexington was awarded a $10,000 risk management grant from the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association, the town's property and casualty insurer, to buy metal barriers for use at public events and celebrations, according to a town announcement.

The MIIA grant is intended to help the town's events team better secure crowds and street closures at community gatherings going forward. It is the most concrete new dollar figure to come out of Town Hall this week.

Separately, the town rolled out LexSortSmart, a new online tool meant to be a one-stop resource for residents navigating waste collection, recycling and disposal rules in Lexington.

The Select Board is also looking to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Trustees of Public Trusts and is inviting qualified residents to apply. Elsewhere, the town continues to promote two resident-facing programs: the Lexington Affordable Housing Trust's Pilot Rental Assistance Program (Lex PRAP) for low- and moderate-income renters, and a new Urban Forest Master Plan, developed with Davey Resource Group, that will guide the future of the town's tree canopy program.

The Select Board holds a hybrid meeting Monday, July 20, the same day the School Building Committee meets remotely. On Tuesday, July 21, the Council on Aging hosts Senior Bingo, a "Coping With Change" program and a Voice Colors Yoga session, while the Economic Development Advisory Committee, the Commission on Disability, the Housing Partnership Board and the Hanscom Field Advisory Commission all hold remote meetings. The School Committee meets remotely Wednesday, July 22. The Retirement Board meets Thursday, July 23, the same day the Board of Appeals holds a remote public hearing on a legal notice for 89 Meriam St.
