Lexington Opens Registration for Fall 2026 Civic Academy
LEXINGTON — The town opened registration for its Fall 2026 Civic Academy, inviting residents to go behind the scenes of town government, as officials also set an Aug. 26 public meeting for residents to weigh in on a modernized waste collection program the town plans to roll out in the summer of 2027.
TOWN HALL
Lexington's Civic Academy returns this fall, giving residents a guided look at how town government actually operates; the town is directing interested applicants to sign up now for the program. Separately, the town announced a new partnership with Bay State Textiles that adds collection bins around town dedicated exclusively to unwanted clothing, shoes and household linens, giving residents another option for responsibly disposing of textiles rather than sending them to the trash.
The Department of Public Works will hold a community meeting on Aug. 26 on its plan to overhaul the town's waste collection program ahead of the 2027 launch, an effort officials say is meant to control rising costs and cut down on waste. Residents can attend to learn about the options under consideration and offer input on which approach they'd prefer. The town also continues to promote its Community Choice Electricity Program, a free, opt-in option that officials say typically offers steadier and lower electricity rates than a standard utility plan while drawing on renewable energy.
SCHOOLS
The School Committee's Policy Subcommittee is scheduled to meet remotely today, Aug. 20, working from an agenda that was revised Aug. 18; specific policy items under discussion were not detailed in the public notice.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The town's 2026 Summer Concert Series continues Friday, Aug. 21, with a performance by Mojo Ride, the latest installment in Lexington's warm-weather concert lineup.
