Holliston Boards Reappoint Fitzgerald to School Committee, Name Three to Building Panel

Holliston's Select Board and School Committee jointly reappointed Sarah Fitzgerald to the school committee vacancy she created when she resigned after the June 2 meeting, voting 8-0 over challenger Allison Lima, who participated by video. Fitzgerald, of 3 Quail Run, addressed her resignation directly, saying the personal nature of online and in-person attacks "crossed a line" and that stepping away was the only way she knew to lower the temperature; after reflection and an outpouring of community support, she submitted her name again to honor voters who had just re-elected her in May. Select Board Vice Chair Damon Dimmick said he preferred Lima's analytical and financial skill set and indicated he would likely abstain, but was recorded voting aye on the roll call.

In the same meeting, the board unanimously amended the school building committee's membership to swap a no-applicant legal seat for a second architecture-engineering-construction seat, then appointed Deb Moore to the 65-and-older slot and Barbara Ryan and Christy Opper to the two construction seats — all for the duration of the project. Sewer Commission Chair John Cronin reported a $4,797,373 MassWorks grant application filed June 3 that, combined with a prior $1.5 million award and a $1.09 million federal earmark, would fully fund the $7.3 million Village Commercial District sewer project pending an October state decision.
