Dover Select Board endorses intersection overhaul, accepts $100,000 climate grant

SHERBORN — Dover Select Board unanimously endorses Center Street intersection overhaul and accepts $100,000 climate planning grant. The board gave conceptual approval to a MassDOT-funded redesign of the Center Street, Springdale Avenue, and Walpole Street intersection, the town's only traffic signal, after engineer Kevin DeAndre of TEC presented data showing the project could cut peak-hour delays by as much as 60 percent through new mast-arm signals, a left-turn pocket, and upgraded detection technology — all covered by up to $1 million in state construction funding. A board member objected that overhead mast arms would be "not within the character of the town," prompting a request for visual renderings and confirmation that the grant would survive a scaled-back design.

The board also voted unanimously to accept a $100,000 Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program grant, presented by Sustainability Committee Chair Anna Nagy, to fund an 11-month climate action planning process that could unlock additional state action grants upon completion.
