Community Preservation Committee · Meeting of July 27, 2026

GROTON — The Groton Community Preservation Committee voted unanimously to let the Park Commission submit an out-of-cycle application for a revised $4.1 million Cow Pond ballfield access and parking project. Park Commission representative Mark told the committee a federal grant worth up to $1 million would otherwise be returned to the state, and that Conservation Commission turtle-habitat protections have already begun closing one park entrance and will shut it permanently afterward. The plan, defeated at a $4.8 million price tag during spring annual town meeting, has been trimmed through added engineering cuts, with $200,000 restored for field lighting.

Treasurer Bruce Eason also walked members through a conservative fiscal 2028 budget built on a $900,000 local surtax estimate. Fall town meeting is set for October 3.
