Community Preservation Committee · Meeting of March 23, 2026

GROTON — The Community Preservation Committee delayed a decision on an $812,500 out-of-cycle request to repair the Squannacook River dam. Town Manager Mark Kadav said eight bids ranged from $502,000 to $1.43 million and that he needs an answer before the Select Board's April 6 deadline for a May 19 debt exclusion ballot question. The Select Board voted 3-1 to let him seek the funds.

Members cited eligibility questions and worried about carrying a second CPC loan, with debt payments projected at $80,000 to $90,000 a year at the peak, against roughly $113,000 to $115,000 a year for historic projects. A resident urged action, saying "You can't take a risk with people's health and safety." Removal is estimated at $1.7 million to $2.2 million. The committee will meet again March 30.
