Other Committee · Meeting of October 26, 2026

Somerville's Condo Review Board approved conversion permits for 15 properties in one meeting and tabled the city's annual report pending better data. Chair Zaslav, Vice Chair Byrne and Board Member Simeon voted 3-0 on every item, granting final permits at 43 Boston Street, 53 Troll Street, 72 Jakes Street and 207 Summer Street, with eleven more preliminary permits conditioned on outstanding master deeds and engineer's reports. Byrne pushed staff to track how many rental units are lost to condo conversion, saying "I think we have lost the affordability concept with the ADUs." At 51 Flint Street a tenant of 13 years received a relocation payment the board recorded as $14,378 before moving out, and at 87-89 Fremont Street roughly $18,000 sits in escrow for a tenant of 25 years who is relocating out of state.
