Boxborough ZBA continues sign hearing after permit error found
Zoning Board of Appeals · Meeting of March 4, 2026
Boxborough Zoning Board of Appeals continues a sign permit hearing after the town admits its own error. The board voted 5-0 to push the case involving 1146 Massachusetts Avenue business Element, formerly National Technical Systems, to March 18 so staff can dig up 1998-era permit records. Town Planner Alec told the board a 2023 sign permit "was inadvertently issued in error" because the file was never closed to confirm the work matched what was authorized.
Applicant Robert Lennon, fined $600 for signage erected without a special permit, said the company wants to be "100 percent in compliance." The board separately approved its January 21 minutes 5-0 and spent hours revising its rules and regulations, including how "use variance" is defined, with a consolidated draft due before the March 18 meeting.
