Biosafety Committee · Meeting of March 5, 2026

Watertown's Biosafety Committee recommended approval of a Neo Splice Therapeutics permit for frozen human tissue work. Principal investigator Antonino Montalbano and CEO Evgeny described handling tumor and normal tissue samples in a BSL-2 cabinet at a shared lab at 155 Arlington St., with samples from sources such as the NIH NeuroBioBank. Liquid waste was to be treated with 10 percent bleach for 30 minutes before disposal.

Mia Lieberman asked about prion screening, and a presenter said the central nervous system tissue is flash-frozen, months or years old, and already screened. Lieberman, Brad Parsons and Ralph Milley voted yes on the roll call. The Board of Health, which issues the permit, was to take it up March 18.
