Bedford Opens Citizen of the Year Nominations, Fire Station Forum Planned

Town officials are asking residents to weigh in on what comes next for the former fire station property, while also opening the annual search for Bedford's Citizen of the Year and releasing the Town Manager's latest weekly update.

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council and Town of Bedford staff are inviting residents to a virtual public forum on the future use of 55 The Great Road, the site of the existing Fire Station, according to the town's website. No date or time details were provided beyond the announcement itself, though the town encouraged residents to "read on" for further information through its News Flash system.

Town officials also announced that nominations are now open for the 2026 Bedford Citizen of the Year, an annual recognition of a resident's contributions to the community. The town did not specify a nomination deadline in the announcement.

The Town Manager's Report for July 6, 2026 is now available for residents to review, according to the town website, though specific contents of the report were not detailed on the homepage.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Bedford Public Library's 2026 HEB Reads! Summer Reading Challenge is underway for adults, teens, and children, running from May 16 through July 31. Participants can log their reading minutes through the Beanstack app or by registering directly with the library, with prize pick-up having begun June 1.

The library also pointed patrons to its summer 2026 newsletters for adults, kids, and tweens/teens, along with a June/July children's events calendar, all available through the library's online calendar.

COMING UP

The Tricentennial Committee meets Monday, July 13. The Commission on Disability, Planning Board, and Trails Committee all have meetings scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, according to the town's public calendar.

The library's Summer Reading Challenge continues through July 31, with ongoing opportunities for residents of all ages to register and log reading minutes.
