Acton Warns Residents To Prepare For Extreme Heat
ACTON — Town officials urged residents to take precautions as extreme heat moves into the forecast this week, even as a free NARA Park kids' concert originally set for this week was postponed and Acton Memorial Library unveiled a new sensory-friendly storytime program.

The town posted a new alert, "Extreme Heat in the Forecast," directing residents to cooling resources as hot conditions arrive, following on the heels of an earlier "Corrected" update on holiday-weekend service hours that closed most non-emergency offices except the library and Transfer Station. Separately, the town confirmed that "Kids Concert Night at NARA featuring Ben Rudnick & Friends" has been postponed, with a makeup date to be scheduled later this summer season. The July 2026 edition of the town's Municipal Monthly newsletter is also now available for download from the town website.

Acton Memorial Library announced a new Sensory Storytime program launching Monday, July 27, in the Grady Room. The small-group session is designed for children ages three to 11, including those on the autism spectrum or with sensory-processing needs, and will feature softer lighting, reduced noise and hands-on sensory stations for families to explore after each session. Registration is capped at six children. The program will be led by Shanon Stevens, an inclusive library programming consultant with more than 20 years of leadership experience in public and school libraries who holds a Master of Library Science and a master's degree in special education. The Community Foundation of Middlesex County funded the new offering; residents with questions can reach library staffer Rebecca Graebner.

The library's Mystery Book Club meets Wednesday, July 22, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Grady Room to discuss "Eight Perfect Murders" by Peter Swanson. That same evening, the library hosts an all-ages "Hamilton Karaoke" singalong from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the library patio or in the Grady Thomas Room, part of the town's America 250 programming. Also Wednesday, the library's YA Dungeons & Dragons Summer Club runs from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the Teen Space. Thursday, July 23, brings Tech Time with librarian Rebecca G., one-on-one device help sessions from 1 to 4 p.m., along with the weekly Peace Crane Folding drop-in from 1 to 2 p.m.
