Acton Sets Saturday Polystyrene Collection at Transfer Station

DATELINE — ACTON

Acton will hold a one-day polystyrene collection at the Transfer Station Saturday, August 15, weather permitting, giving residents a chance to recycle foam packaging that curbside pickup does not take.

TOWN HALL

The Department of Public Works will run the polystyrene, or Styrofoam, collection at the Transfer Station this Saturday, weather permitting, according to the town's website. The collection gives households a way to dispose of foam packaging and blocks that regular curbside recycling does not accept.

The town also posted its August 2026 Municipal Monthly newsletter this week, the regular roundup of town news and updates available for download on the town's website.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

Acton Memorial Library added a new pet-therapy reading program this month. "Imaginary Tails with Izzy," held Tuesday, lets children sign up for 10-minute slots reading aloud to Izzy, a 2-year-old certified reading dog handled by Liz and Jody Moss.

The library also launched Acton Compassion-Knits, a staff-led weekly charity knitting and crochet circle that meets Wednesdays in the Friends' Conference Room. Participants make items for donation using yarn and patterns the library provides, or bring their own projects.

The library's weekly Peace Crane Folding sessions continue building toward a goal of 1,000 origami cranes, which organizers plan to donate to a charity chosen by the group once the goal is reached.
