Weston Historical Commission Delays Demolition of 1910 Glen Road Cottage

Weston Historical Commission unanimously imposes demolition delay on a 1910 Glen Road cottage and takes four additional votes in a busy summer session. The commission voted 5-0 at its July 28 online meeting to delay demolition of 445 Glen Road, a circa-1910 gardener's cottage for the Charles H. Jones estate that the panel had previously deemed historically significant; architects from Hexaco presented plans for a roughly 4,400-square-foot colonial replacement but said geotechnical work must precede any firm design.
A separate public hearing on additions to 17 Loring Road, another 1910 colonial revival home on a scenic road, was continued to August 18 after members found the architectural drawings inadequate to show the fieldstone foundation and rear massing. The commission also voted unanimously to appoint member Ford Curran as its new Community Preservation Committee representative, filling the seat vacated by longtime member Steve Wagner, and to name Lori Hess as an associate member to lead a rail-trail signage initiative modeled on a ten-sign, $25,000 state-funded project recently completed in Wayland. A working group was formally established to engage with new owners of the Case Estates schoolhouse and barn, who face a December purchase-completion deadline and are proposing custom Accoya-wood windows and a reconstructed greenhouse on an original foundation.
