Weston Historical Commission Approves 1682 Warren House Renovations, Clears Merriam Street Tree Removal

WESTON — June 2, 2026 — Weston Historical Commission unanimously approved exterior renovations at a circa-1682 house and authorized emergency tree removal at a preservation-restricted property during its June 2 meeting. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern and five commission members voted 6-0 to approve window, door, and siding work at 71 Lexington Street, known as the Warren House, clearing the applicant to install 16-inch clear white cedar shingles, Harvey Majesty aluminum-clad wood windows, and a stationary carriage-style garage door — the door will be a decorative facade because, as the applicant explained, "it's wide plank floors on top of a 344-year-old frame" that cannot bear a vehicle's weight. The commission also voted 6-0 to authorize removal of three dying trees at 261 Merriam Street, a 1901 house subject to a preservation restriction, while referring the replanting question to the Planning Board; Planning Board member Leslie Glynn, who helped draft the original restriction, urged the commission to bring in landscape architect Kim Turner before specifying any new plantings. In a third 6-0 vote, the commission approved payment of an invoice to researcher Stacy Spies for MACRIS documentation work at 751-761 Boston Post Road covering the Sibley house and barn, funded from a $4,500 annual town allocation.
