Wayland EDC advances Route 20 cleanup letter and awaits Raytheon playground decision
WAYLAND -- May 11, 2026, Wayland EDC moves on Route 20 cleanup letter as Raytheon stalls town green playground. The Economic Development Committee on Tuesday agreed Chair Rebecca M. Stanizzi and member Katie Noble Harris would draft a letter to Route 20 property owners urging frontage cleanup ahead of a curb-cut RFP that DPW Director Tom Holder is targeting for June or July release. Town Manager Tom said Raytheon, whose contractual rights still govern changes at the former industrial site, has not yet responded on a proposed town green playground that Graffito has offered to design. Member S. Alihan Polat said Article 25 passed before roughly 150 Town Meeting voters because the site felt remote, calling it a missed mixed-use opportunity: "That site was just the pink elephant in the room." Article 16 and its roughly $200,000 Orchard Lane study failed. The committee adjourned 5-0 at 9:26 a.m.
