SUDBURY — The Sudbury Historic Districts Commission approved seven certificates of appropriateness in one meeting, covering three solar panel projects, a church sign, a barn renovation, a pool removal and a chimney cap. Chair Anuraj Shah led the board through a third review of a Maynard Road solar array after panels were removed from a spot "not one commission member requested," while members Christopher Hagger, Peter Iovanella, John "Griff" Noble, Taryn Trexler and Shervin Hawley weighed in on each case. The board required a 26 Concord Road church sign to return separately, continued to October 1, 2026, with lighting specifications after Hawley warned "the light can create great glare in neighbors." Commissioners also voted to submit a fiscal year 2027 Community Preservation Act grant application to evaluate the town's five historic district boundaries, ahead of a September 14 deadline, after adopting language from Hagger, who noted that about 300 such structures "are already fully researched."

Correction (Nov. 3, 2026): An earlier version of this story said the commission approved eight certificates of appropriateness at a Sept. 4 meeting. It approved seven, at its Sept. 3 meeting. It also credited associate member Shervin Hawley's remarks on sign lighting and glare to Taryn Trexler, credited Griff Noble's call for a separate meeting to Christopher Hagger, and misattributed several other remarks.
